Halloween with heart – The “Creepygarden”
When things get eerily beautiful in Hamburg-Oldenfelde in autumn, it's usually thanks to our "Creepygarden". Since 2019, we've been transforming our front garden into a small spooky spectacle every year for Halloween – and for a very personal reason.
One of our daughters lives with Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes, among other things, short stature, developmental delays, and a lack of satiety. Large quantities of sweets are off-limits for her – making a traditional Halloween trick-or-treating impossible. So we decided on the spot: "If we can't go trick-or-treating, then Halloween will come to us."
What began with just a few decorations has since become a real crowd-pleaser. Every year, the front garden is transformed into an intricately designed spooky scene, where visitors can enjoy the eerily beautiful atmosphere. Meanwhile, we cozy up at home with an open fire and pumpkin soup.
But the “Creepygarden” is not just a feast for the senses – it also has a social purpose: Every year a donation box is set up, the proceeds of which go to charitable organizations.
Halloween is gaining more and more fans in Germany, especially among children. It's important to us to make this fun accessible to everyone while also doing something good.
Thus, a family idea has become a firm tradition – a place where Halloween means not only horror, but also heart.
